Joshua's Birthday Cake

My Mom always makes cakes to go with our birthday party themes. This year Joshua picked a Star Wars theme. The cake was the planet Hoth (a snow planet). Here is how she made it:

Start with a 9 x 13 cake and cut in half horizontally. Fold open like a book, so cake is suddenly 1/2 the height and twice the width.
Create landscape using Rice Krispie Square recipe (2 batches). (She used Chocolate Cheerios instead of Rice Krispies, but any cereal should work). Tip: Wait until Rice Krispie mixture is partially set before molding into shapes, otherwise it's too sticky.
Check placement of Star Wars characters before icing to make sure you are happy with the landscape layout.
Cover with Buttercream Icing. You will probably need two batches of icing.

 Add Characters
 and you're done!
It was an awesome cake. It tasted good too. Happy Birthday Josh.
